Good cooker

We're pretty much all packed and ready to leave first thing in the morning. I should go to bed and get a good night's sleep so, of course, I'm on the laptop. After a decidedly average sleep last night I was up early washing clothes, making lunches and tidying up before the cleaner arrived. Yay, I have a cleaner! Now one can't pack while one's cleaner is cleaning so we did not feel guilty heading off to Old Junee for the morning. We went to visit Kristy and Jack. Kristy has a job writing book reviews for Web Child and is currently reviewing a rather delightful children's cook book, the name of which completely escapes me, so we packed Bethany's apron ready for some recipe road testing.

Firstly, we had tea, hot chocolate and some lovely strawberry scone scrolls from Belinda Jeffery's baking book, which I would love to get for Christmas or something :) Bethany and Jack played together really well, ignoring age and gender differences. Then we got down to business. This isn't the best shot of Bethany but I like how you can see the flour coming out of the nifty sifter.

Jack lets Thomas and his friends in on everything. I forget who the green one is but he was a pretty good help in the kitchen.

Bethany really got into it as evidenced by the tongue.

The gingerbread recipe was lovely. Not too sweet, easy to roll out and with lovely citrus flavours.

Finally I made this shape in homage to the chopstick holder I saw on Not Quite Nigella.

I didn't finish this post before bed last night and am doing it from Mum's computer in Broke. With plenty of stops (including one in Wahroonga that resulted in the kids being full of juice, Monte Carlos and lollies but they weren't sick thanks to Travacalm) it took us nine hours to get here. I love the holidays!
