In and out of the kitchen

On Saturday I had a night out of the kitchen at my work mate, Michelle's house. We have been planning for ages to have a work social do and Shell was the one to finally make it happen. We had Indian and the most delicious strawberry daiquiris. I really did try to get a good photo of them in all their luscious, scarlet glory but I was thwarted by mood lighting and lack of skill. I tried the flash - too lurid.

No flash didn't work terribly well either but they tasted delicious. Dessert in a cocktail glass, I had two.

They were rather glamourous so I was glad I had on my favourite shoes. Surely it will be easy to get a shot of those? No, it was not. Shoes by themselves are not very pretty but how do you take a photo of your shoes when they are so very close to you and at such an awkward angle?

At least the dinner I made on Sunday night sat still on the table. I made felafel and tabbouleh which we ate with hummus in mountain bread wraps. Bethany loved it, Toby tolerated it and Jossie cried. Is it old fashioned to make children eat their dinner whether they like it or not?

Tonight, while Andrew is in Sydney, I should be watching all those DVDs I have waiting, especially the ones he doesn't want to watch. Instead, because I am on supper for Bible study tomorrow night, I am making chocolate sour cherry cupcakes, a variation of a Not Quite Nigella recipe and Nigella's fabulous banana bread with rum soaked raisins. It turns out that I really like the process as well as the product. I know this because I am not eating cake at the moment and still enjoyed my night in the kitchen. I'm sure there will be (bad) photos tomorrow.
