Indian Summer
Almost April it may be but it is still hot in Wagga. It almost rained on Sunday evening, there was thunder and lightning (funder and lightening according to Bethany) but only two spits of rain. But I am getting ahead of myself and will begin the story of our weekend with Friday.
I brought home from the library a book about fit kids and in the spirit of getting active packed some rockmelon, strawberries and grapes and headed to the park after school. I even kicked a soccer ball with Toby! After dinner Jossie and I headed into town for a concert at the amphitheatre by the lagoon. The Sowers are in Australia for their first tour outside of Africa. The video was taken on the night - don't you love YouTube! They are from the DR Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania and they were brilliant. Jossie danced with her friends in the crowd and I sat with my friends where I could see, dance in my seat and hold the delightful baby Amy - she's like 8 kilos of marshmallows. I think Chrissie would have really enjoyed it.That's my library across the lagoon - the lights were on because the cleaners were there.

We were up bright and early for Toby's last game of cricket for the season. One of us is very sad about that. Andrew had to go to work so Bethany and I tried to amuse ourselves at the oval. I sent Bethany out to look for smooth and rough skinned trees. I love this smooth gum that looks like it is reaching out to embrace me.

In the late afternoon, when it began to cool down, the children and I drove to Knights and walked along the levee bank to Wagga Beach. Oh yes, hours and hours from the coast we may be, but we have a beach on the Murrumbidgee, which looks like this from the levee bank.

As it was getting close to dinner I planned only to stay at the beach for a few minutes, the walk being the main purpose of our outing, but it was awfully hard to get the kids out of the water.

It was also difficult to keep Bethany from going all the way in, clothes and all.

We'll have to go back with our swimmers before autumn finally arrives.
See, it really is a beach, sand and everything!

We found this gum tree on the way back. Smooth, rough and multi-coloured. We all really enjoyed the walk and on Sunday afternoon we walked over to the Scotts'. Actually, Jossie, Bethany and I rode scooters. Bethany is still perfecting her technique so by the time she and I arrived at the Scotts' they had put up the tent that Andrew and Toby are borrowing. They are going on a father/son camping trip with church on Friday night! Bethany is a little put out and asked me if I would take her camping. I told her that I would take her to stay at a hotel and we can go to cafes and chocolate shops but she wants to go camping. Maybe we can set up the tent in the lounge room....

Wagga Wagga the cosmic bowl ( that’s what a friend once called it) WOW what great weekend of activity you had. Well said…. I would have loved it (The Sowers that is) your library makes the perfect back drop to the performance although the romance of a thousand stories seeping from its walls and dancing to rhythms as old as creation is some what diminished by the thought of cleaners leaving the lights on.
How beautiful is the beach “Whirl pools at the edge, I hear birds song, Gum trees that kiss the light” the beach waits patiently waits for the five o’clock wave to arrive and sings the songs of the ancient feet who trod it shores and lived from its water, I love the Wagga Beach.
Thank you for the post I feel like a piece of home just arrived in the living room
Chrissie
