Mermaid Party

On the last day of day care Bethany received a party invitation and she has talked of little else since. I told her that it was after Christmas (you know how Christmas seems a long way away even when it is next week?) so, on Boxing Day she asked if it was party time. Party day finally arrived on Saturday. Andrew took Joss and Tobes to the movies to see something with Adam Sandler in it and I went with Bethany to the mermaid party.

I am a very social person but I'll admit that I don't love going to children's parties where I don't know anyone. I had never met Bethany's friend Bianca's parents, or even Bianca! Bethany has talked about Bianca a great deal so I knew that they were good friends and they definitely showed that at the party. They played in the little pool together for ages.

They threw water bombs everywhere. I managed to stay reasonably dry....not every parent did.

They ate sausages together.

The last time I went to the party of a daycare friend with Bethany the couple were young and beautiful and Bethany's friend was their eldest child. I felt a bit awkward there but Bianca has two older siblings, seven and eleven years old and is a boisterous and vivacious child like Bethany and her mother and I are going to get the girls together for play days.

Doesn't the cake look great! I confess that in my old age I am not at all tempted to eat children's birthday cakes like this. I love cake, I really do, but I only want to eat good cake, smothered in something other than butter icing. I got out lots of recipe books for Toby to flick through to choose his birthday cake for Wednesday. The classic Woman's Weekly Children's Birthday Cake book was there, of course, but I steered him towards Nigella Feast which has a chocolate cake hall of fame. Thankfully he chose the chocolate malteser cake. I'm sure I won't forget to take photos!
