Happy Australia Day!

I had lots of things I meant to blog about during the week only I had no photos, so I didn't. I've forgotten it all now of course so I'll just give a quick update of what we have been up to.
Bethany: Can play on the "puter" all by herself and can dive into the pool.
Toby: Is reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone ( he hasn't asked me what a philosopher is and isn't bothered by the words he doesn't know. Why did the American publishers think so little of American children that they needed to change the title? This rant is for Ty.) and James and the Giant Peach.
Jossie: Is reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and lost TWO teeth!
Amy and Andrew: Watched the Sally Lockhart Mysteries on DVD and are therefore looking forward to the new Dr Who.

On Saturday morning Jossie, Toby and I went back to the museum. When we visited last week we had so much fun dressing up in all the outfits but we weren't sure what they all were. During the week the museum sent an email around council asking for children to model all the outfits to make a book that explains their significance. So the kids dressed up as Tom Castro, Miss Wagga, jockeys, Mad Dog Morgan the bushranger and nurses. Jossie just couldn't get enough.

In the afternoon Bethany, Toby and I went to visit Isabelle who was born on Toby's birthday. She is very sweet and obliged us by being awake the whole time we were there.

Even Toby wanted a hold.

Today is not only Australia Day but also Mim's birthday. Last night she and Bill came over for a birthday dinner. I had asked Mim to look through my cook books and pick a cake. She chose Nigella's Strawberry Meringue Layer Cake. I don't know how you are meant to go about keeping that much cream from spilling over the edges. It doesn't look very pretty but it tasted great.

We had a lovely evening. I made lamb kofta and Bailey's truffles to eat while we played Trivial Pursuit. We played boys against girls and the girls won, but only just.

Today (how I love public holidays) we will have a quiet day inside in the air-conditioning. We'll have a BBQ for lunch, a swim at the Junee pool and then go to our friends', the Lords, farm for an Aussie celebration with lamb, pavlova and gumboot throwing.
