More Christmas

After our delightful early Christmas we were all ready for another and the day dawned sunny and hot. Thankfully, we had kept Jossie and Toby up late watching Carols By Candlelight so early for Joss was after seven. We opened the last bag on the beautiful Advent Calendar Sare made for us and we read the Christmas story together before Mum and Dad came in for presents.

Church was at nine so we didn't quite manage a cooked breakfast but after church we opened the rest of the presents and were then able to relax over lunch while the children played with their loot. We had deliciously retro prawn cocktails and, would you believe, that is the only photo I took on the day!

We also had a fabulous butterflied leg of lamb on the BBQ with more goose fat potatoes (you MUST find some goose fat) and salad. Having eaten so much, the only option for the afternoon was a nap and while a game of cricket is traditional, it was way too hot to contemplate. We did go for a walk up to the Scotts' in the late afternoon to wish Chris a happy birthday and to give him some of our cake.

We had nibbles and Eton Mess made with mangoes and raspberries for dinner and played Scrabble. All in all a lovely day. Mum and Dad left first thing on Boxing Day and we were then faced with the first day in ages where we had nothing special to do! Jossie and I went into town for the Boxing Day sales - she felt so grown up shopping for clothes and shoes, and hasn't stopped talking about how wonderful her new shoes and skirt are.

Since then we have been enjoying a real break. Staying up late watching some of the many DVDs we got for Christmas (we finished the Forsyte Saga and are now watching Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes ), sleeping late, eating until we could burst and ending the day in the pool. Good times.
