We're back!
Living without the Internet for a few days has been a very interesting experience. My games of scrabble on Facebook could not be touched, I couldn't post pictures of Bethany's birthday party so Mum had to text me to ask how it went and I finished two books that I have been reading for a while. Actually, it was quite refreshing....but I'm glad to be back.
Now we have to go way back to catch up. Last Wednesday night we all went to see the Watoto Children's Choir. I wasn't certain it was a good idea to keep Bethany up late but we decided that it would probably be worth it, and we were right. I have had a soft spot for Africa for as long as I can remember, partly from the movies I watched when I was young and then my friend Janice came from South Africa, so I was really moved to hear these beautiful, orphaned children sing and especially to see them dance - so vibrant, energetic and full of life. This is a little video I took of them and I am a bit disappointed with it because Bethany spent half the concert in the aisle trying to dance like them and I was too busy watching to video it. In the last song I pulled out my camera and when I finally turned to her, she had stopped. Try and imagine her dancing like they did.
We didn't get the kids into bed until after 9pm so we were a touch late to school on Thursday morning, thankfully it wasn't a work day. All my spare time was then spent getting ready for Bethany's birthday party. It is almost a month since her actual birthday (I didn't have the idea of giving her a party until late and then the holidays affected when her friends were available) so long, in fact, that she thought she would be turning five and was very upset to be told she still has eleven months of being four to go. So, I cooked, made and filled lolly bags and wrapped the pass the parcel. The party was at 10 am so, as the icing on the cake is best done on the day, I got up at six! On a Saturday! This is what the cake and room looked like at 6am.
And around an hour later, a castle cake for the Prince and Princess party!
The Princess herself with pre-party jitters.
The party table. I forgot to take a photo of the chicken and veggie sausage rolls I made. They took ages to make and, thankfully, were delicious.
Making crowns for all the prices and princesses.
Andrew came as an Arabian prince! We had to take this off as soon as the photo was taken so he didn't get this amazing outfit dirty.

Bethany had a wonderful time and while I didn't exactly enjoy getting up at six I was most impressed to be all cleaned up, order restored by one o'clock. No more parties until January.
