Monkey Drum
Andrew dropped the kids off at school, Alice came and took Bethany out so I had a lovely morning, yesterday, with my foot up. I read my book, watched Relocation Relocation which, as I'm sure I've mentioned before, I love beyond reason or proportion, and some extras from Life on Mars. I'm really going to miss Sam, Annie, Gene, Chris and even Ray. I just find the blatant, rampant even, political incorrectness so very funny. I love the way Gene Hunt will smoke in a hospital room, put the cigarette out on the floor with his shoe and have a big punch up with Sam. And how the end is so satisfying while still not answering all our questions. BRILLIANT!
So, after my quiet morning I squeezed my foot into a shoe, but couldn't do it up, picked the kids up from school, went to the fish man, Coles and then to the library for Monkey Drum. Having been a part of the publicity for the event I could hardly let the kids miss out because of my ankle. Monkey Drum is a man from Canberra with lots of drums and percussion instruments and the kids had a wonderful time singing, dancing and playing the drums.

Toby really enjoyed the drumming but whenever they were about to do singing or dancing he came over to me, not wanting to participate. This video shows that he warmed up to the idea of dancing and really let himself go! Bethany always loves to dance, as does Joss who can be seen to the left with her friends.
I, rather stupidly, stayed on my feet when we got home and cooked pan-fried fish and wedges for the kids followed by spiced fish and dahl for the grown-ups (Mim came over). I also made a raspberry gratin which was so easy and delicious, despite the fact that I forgot it was under the grill and burnt it, that I will share the recipe with you.
Raspberry Gratin
300g raspberries (I just used frozen)
3 eggs
11/2 tbs ground almonds
1 tsp vanilla extract
300ml thick cream
75g caster sugar
icing sugar for dusting
Place raspberries in a 6-cup-capacity gratin dish or 4 individual gratin dishes (I don't own any sort of gratin dish so used a pie dish). Combine eggs, ground almonds, vanilla, cream and 2 tbs sugar, pour over raspberries and sprinkle over remaining sugar. Place on oven tray at bake at 180C for 10-15 mins until almost set (I don't know if it was the dish I used but it took much longer than this to come close to set and became quite golden just in the oven). Place under a hot grill until golden, dust with icing sugar and serve warm or at room temperature. Serves 4. This is a picture from the book as my burnt version was not as visually enticing. So easy, so good.

Today all the children are at school or daycare and I am at home! I couldn't see myself coping with all the standing and walking I need to do at work and don't have any shoes suitable for work that my foot will fit into. I am hoping that by Monday the swelling will be gone and am visiting the doctor this afternoon to check that I didn't actually break anything. A whole day to read and lie around all by myself, how will I cope?
