Book Week and the mini-mayor

I dread Book Week. You would probably imagine that, as a librarian, I would think it a wonderful thing, but I don't. The sad fact is that I am not creative and I can't make, or even think up, good costumes to wear to the parade. Toby owns a superman costume and was perfectly happy to wear it but Andrew, quite rightly, considers that a bit of a cop out. I tried to come up with a better option, but in the end I consoled myself with the fact that we paid for the outfit so it is good for him to get use out of it and Superman did at least start off as a book, if only a comic book, or graphic novel as we call them now. Surely that is better than all the Pixar characters you see and especially the Bratz doll a little girl went as a few years ago (that was disturbing on many levels - she was having a wardrobe malfunction!).

Jossie went as Susan Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to my favourite books but after searching all over town for a toy bow and arrow, I had to let it go. I did manage to find a shield with a lion on it.

Bethany wasn't the only little sister to join in.

This is one of the teachers being Dorothy. Toto is her little boy - too gorgeous!

A Book Week parade should be enough dressing-up fun for one day but we took it one further. Toby played a mini mayor in a photo shoot that will promote council's Little Big Day Out. He was a bit reluctant when I first raised the possibility with him, but he got right into it.

We went to five different locations to take photos.

Bethany made friends with DA Dog. The DA stands for Daily Advertiser and there is a nice young woman in the suit, in case you were wondering.

It was definitely a man inside Josie the cow!
