Derbyshire
Yesterday I started, and today I will complete, a senior first aid course. It has been around nine years since I last did one and first aid has changed. For a start we actually learnt to use a defibrillator! You have to say 'stand clear' and everything just like we are in ER (I'm sure I could use a more current example of a medical show only I don't watch any). Using one of these machines is quite an involved process. You have to check for pacemakers, remove angina patches, remove all jewellery and piercings and underwire bras. Clothing must be cut off and hairy chests shaved. It is nice to know how to do this but I really hope I never need it.
Back to the trip.... After leaving Stratford-upon-Avon we went to Warwick Castle. It is owned by Madame Tussauds and is full of wax people. They have done it really well in that they give you and idea of what life was like for a certain family who lived there. They also did special exhibits for children and there were lots of school groups at the castle.

Another intimate little dining room.

We took this photo for Toby. They had a long corridor filled with weapons and though Toby hasn't shown any special interest in weaponry we felt that that would have been one of the times we would have liked him to be with us.

We climbed up onto the battlements and at the top of one tower they had metal grates through which you could see the ground, a loooong way down. I don't usually have a problem with heights but I was frightened and couldn't go near the edges! If you ignore all the other tourists milling about you can imagine from up there what it might have been like long ago.
We arrived next at Chesterfield and I couldn't upload photos while we were there. Trish took us down to the Knoll which is the house my Granny lived in.
Trish also lived in it and she said that the current owners have not taken the best care of it. We knocked on the door and a sleepy, tattooed teenager answered and said that his parents were away but we could help ourselves to a look around the garden.
He must of thought us very odd for taking photos at his front door, or maybe he just went back to bed.

I think it was sad for Trish to see it looking less than it was but I was thrilled to see where Granny had lived.
Chesterfield is in Derbyshire and we feel in love with the countryside. One day we hope to go back and spend days just walking.
