Goodbye to London

Some observations about central London
  • It is a bit manic! People everywhere, cars, buses and taxis everywhere and all very daring on the roads.

  • It is full of young, trendy people. The women dress fashionably and wear very high heels.
  • It is a wonderful mix of old and new buildings.

  • They are miles ahead of us in the ethical business department. Coffee shops, food places and department stores sell only fairtrade coffee, locally sourced ingredients and environmentally friendly practices.

  • It is much more multicultural than I expected.
  • When it is sunny, as it was for our first 2 days, all the workers flock to the parks and strip off to soak it up.

  • Parks are very important to them. Despite having so many people to house there are parks everywhere.

So, on our second and last day in London we started with breakfast at the delightful Pret a Manger.

We caught the bus to St Paul's Cathedral where I took this photo because I didn't see all the signs that tell you no photos allowed - I didn't take any more though it was spectacular.

We shopped on Oxford and Regent Streets and went to the British Museum where I could spend several weeks and then we went down to Buckingham Palace.

We finished our day in the West End, seeing Les Miserables - fabulous!

This morning we picked up a car and drove to Suffolk to stay with Pam. The countryside is lovely and tomorrow we go to Cambridge.
