Indian Summer

Indian summer sounds so nice. It reminds me of English books I read as a child. We're having an Indian summer and it is most unpleasant. It has been in the high thirties all week! I took this photo on Tuesday afternoon, it was Bethany's last day with her favourite teacher, Kelly. Look how red in the face they are! It would have been much better to take the photo in the morning when Bethany was clean, but Kelly does the second shift so the photo gives you a sense of how Bethany loves to play outside and pretty much needs hosing down when we get home. We're going to miss Kelly.

Bethany has completely dropped her afternoon sleep now. She was absolutely exhausted yesterday so I put her in her room but she just played. Later in the afternoon she was getting very grumpy and I heard her screaming in the courtyard. I ran outside and saw her underneath a chair, still yelling. I told her to get out of there as I wanted her to look at me while I told her that screaming was not appropriate when she wailed "I can't". Her head was stuck in the chair! As I was falling asleep I thought to myself "Doh! I should have taken a photo of it". Yes Amy, when your child is stuck and screaming, telling her to wait while you get the camera is totally acceptable.

On Monday night I made some more granola. I put it in the oven, watched the rest of Hairspray and forgot all about it! I could not accept the fact that I had burnt it. I went so far as the add the raisins and put it in the jar, hoping it would be better in the morning. What a waste, I almost cried.
Looking good before going into the oven.

Bethany listening to Mika in front of the granola that is not OK.

Thankfully, I was paying attention when I made this cake for biblestudy. It is Mascarpone-filled sponge cake with Marsala syrup and it comes from an Australian Gourmet sweet things cookbook. Chrissie rescued it from the booksale at the library for me. The photo is so uninspiring but I'm afraid I have no talent in that area and no inclination to develop any. Megan's food shots put me to shame, not least because she has cool crockery.
