The Good Life

We don't watch commercial television (how snobby does that sound!)unless forced, like when the cricket is on channel 9. We watch Austar and the ABC and a bit of SBS but we do have TV on DVD. We watch The Office (original of course, Tricia did the English Office ever show in the States?), The Thin Blue Line (the only time I really like Rowan Atkinson, except for in Love Actually), Midsomer Murders and Firefly. None of these are suitable viewing for the children but last year Andrew bought As Time Goes By and we watched it with Jossie and Tobes and they absolutely loved it. I grew up watching great British shows like Robin's Nest and To the Manor Born so when the first series of The Good Life was returned to the library last week I thought the kids would love to watch it with us. As it turns out, they are really enjoying it but it has been a real eye opener for us! The way they relate to each other, the fact that they smoke (in the house!) and the fact that the first words of the first show were "You bitch" show how much things have changed. Last night, while I was at a dinner with all the women from my church, they watched the last show and, sadly, the library doesn't have any more. The kids are trying to talk us into buying some. I think I'd really love to see To the Manor Born again, I wonder what surprises it would hold nearly 30 years later.

Mim brought us these lovely flowers on Thursday night!

Andrew is at a meeting this morning and the kids and I are cooking. I love the freezer very much, this is the other half of the biscuit dough I made a few weeks ago.

Bethany needs Dora to cook.

Even if she looks more like Pippi Longstocking.

She and Toby took turns tracing a plate onto baking paper and then she needed to get a rubber because she drew under the bench.

Mum and Tim will be able to guess what we are having for dinner tonight... I'll try and remember to take pictures of it cooked, and also of the dessert we're having because it is going to be good!
