Christ is risen!

Happy Easter everyone! Apart from the final few hours, we had a lovely time which I will now share with you in a very long post with a thousand photos.
We left on Thursday afternoon around 4.30 and while it was still a long and unpleasant drive, it was no worse than usual so I would definitely travel at that time of day again. We got to Gunning at dinner time and it was still light enough to play at the park. It looks much darker than it was because of the flash.

The major advantage of travelling on Thursday night was that we had all of Friday in Sydney. We had a slow morning and then went to visit Granny and Bamma. The kids became a bit raucous towards the end, but we really enjoyed it. I especially loved the simnel cake!!

With Saturday set to be a monster day, we had a quiet Friday afternoon. Sue made us a fabulous roast lamb for dinner and Bethany and I shelled the peas. After dinner Sue, Andrew and I settled down for some Rummikub (faithfully pronounced the German way Kristin) until I remembered that the new series of Midsomer Murders was starting. We rudely left Sue to play by herself and watched it. It may take me a while to get used to the new DS. I miss Troy, he was so delightfully un-PC and so very funny. DS Scott looks like a footballer, but I'm sure I'll warm to him.

Saturday was the big day when Andrew took Joss and Tobes to the Easter Show. They had a wonderful time and took some great photos, but not on my camera, so I'll let Andrew share that story and I'll tell you about my day in town with Bethany. I don't think we had quite so spectacular a day. Bethany is only three and we did a lot of walking but it was a good experience for us. It was pouring when we got to the train station (a lovely novelty for us) and despite the fake smile, Bethany was pretty excited about going on a train.

We went straight to Haigh's which was so packed we had to take our photo outside. I bought Bethany a chocolate mint frog and myself a small box of dark chocolates and looked on in wonder as people around me put hundreds of dollars worth of chocolate in their baskets!

We went over to Borders in the Skygarden and had a coffee and some banana bread. Bethany insisted on having my latte froth even though it tasted of coffee and she didn't like the taste. As she has only one volume (11), other patrons were highly amused by her.

Though not keen on testing whether or not she gets seasick, I did want her to see the ferries and the harbour so we went for a long walk down Pitt Street and she picked up leaves and called them her candles. When we got to the water she threw her candles into the harbour and we tried to take photos of ourselves with the water and the Opera House in the background but it was very sunny and they didn't work.

We walked back up George Street and I wanted to go back to Haigh's for some marzipan (I really should write myself a list when I go there as I get overwhelmed) but it was so busy that the queue went out the door. So we hopped on the train and went back to Wahroonga. I think the outing was just the right length for her, but I'd have done so much more had I been on my own!
Andrew bought Bethany an Angelina Ballerina showbag and here she is, all dressed up.

On Sunday morning we went to St Mark's Berowra with Mal, Marlee, Alannah and Jordy. It was a great service and afterwards we went back to Wahroonga for our Easter egg hunt. I hid chocolate eggs and Resurrection Eggs around the garden and then Nan, Grandad and the kids found them all. In the interest of fairness and to keep people from eating so much they are sick, all the eggs went into a communal bag, except the Resurrection eggs which we open and hear the story of Jesus' death and resurrection. Joss and Tobes went to the Berowra Heaps' for a sleepover (Toby's first!) and Bethany, Andrew and I went into Newtown to see the Whittinghams.
We hadn't met Sarah as we last saw Janice and Dave over a year ago. She is very beautiful! It was great to see where they live and we had a lovely time sitting in a playground that is surrounded by Moore College housing and is for everyone to use. I had lots of Sarah cuddles and the kids had lots of fun playing on the equipment.

When you ask Will to smile, he does a pirate face!

This is Josh. Sadly the photo of Dave was too dark.

Another night of Rummikub, after delicious crumbed cutlets, and then we watched Ron's DVD of the first series of To the Manor Born - too good!
Sue and Ron went to get Jossie and Toby from Berowra while we packed and then we all met at Sare and Ty's place for breakfast - and what a breakfast it was with bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, fruit salad and yoghurt! Just what we needed before a long car trip! Some very funny photos were taken, but not on my camera. Here is Jossie holding the gorgeous Xavier with Ron, Ty and Toby.
This is similar, but with more Xavier tummy.

Bethany playing soccer.

It was a wonderful way to end our trip to Sydney. We said goodbye and drove for hours. We stopped in Berrima for a quick play in the park.
I am so thankful that everyone was well while we were in Sydney and in the car that I almost didn't mind that Toby threw up from 8.30 last night till 3.30 this morning! I haven't been at work since last Tuesday and now won't be back til Friday - parenthood!
