Happy Birthday Toby!

Its hard to believe Toby is six years old today! He has been very excited about it, especially as some presents have been here since Christmas. It felt a bit odd wrapping presents last night, haven't we just been here? Still, close to Christmas as it is, he was thrilled this morning. Here are a couple of photos of him opening his presents.

Sadly, today he had to go to daycare with Joss and Bethany - they weren't sad but it seemed like bad timing to me. This is the first day back after Christmas. I made a cake for him to share with everyone. He chose it from the old favourite Women's Weekly kids' birthday cake book. He chose Mister Monster and I made a really big one in a roasting dish.

It was, in fact, an extemely chocolatey day yesterday. I made Mister Monster, a chocolate pavlova for a farewell morning tea at work and Mini mars bar cakes for us to have tonight!

We went to Hogs Breath Cafe for a special birthday dinner. Sorry to everyone who tried to ring Toby today, we had a very busy day! I hope these photos make you feel almost as though you were here.

Now that the birthday boy is almost in bed (he and Joss are testing out some of his presents, I can think about watching a murder tonight, a Midsomer Murder. We bought the first three series on DVD. I don't usually go for crime fiction, I just really love the English villages and the characters. The ABC shop is a pretty dangerous place for me, I want to own so many of their DVDs. To the Manor Born, all the Jane Austens and the Bronte collection with the Jane Eyre from the 80s, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Wuthering Heights. Andrej lent us an old movie version of Jane Eyre with George C Scott and Susannah York - it was not right in so many ways, but interesting to see how they did it.
