Relief

You may remember that Beth ended up in hospital about five months ago after having a-febrile seizures. Diagnosed as rotaviral encephalitis (not epilepsy as first thought), she slowly improved and got better without any medication aside from IV glucose and fluids. An EEG was performed at the time, where they put a cap with little cameras on her head and read brain activity. (It's made a little difficult in that initially you have to be awake, then fall asleep during the test). That EEG came back quite abnormal, as was to be expected - and it pretty much ruled out any chance of epilepsy.

5 months later, and Beth had her follow up EEG last week. Today we went to the paediatrician for the results. We've been nervous, as Beth does have a couple of curious little habits that challenge our already heightened sense of waryness.. The results of this EEG however, combined with the knowledge of the paediatrician, let us breathe a sigh of relief... There are still some minor residual abnormalities, however we've been told that it may take quite a long time for complete recovery. As for the habits - we've been assured that they are nothing to be worried about. She's bright, imaginative, funny, responsive, social, and healthy. I have a new found respect for those parents who care for those with neurological disorders. Thanks for those of you who knew of our concerns and were praying... I can't tell you how relieved we are...
