The Calm...

We're very happy.. Bethany has settled in well, and we're delighted that she seems to have worked out which is day and which is night and acted/slept appropriately. Because of that, both Amy and I have had decent sleep and have been able to deal with any small dramas with some ease. Joss & Tobes are cool with the new baby thing, although Toby isn't too cool with people other than Amy and I holding her. I'm pretty sure he was about to smack out a friendly older neighbour who was enjoying a hold of Bethany this afternoon. I've still got a couple of weeks off, so Amy is formulating how she'll get things done when I'm at work - that's probably the major hurdle. Meanwhile, people still continue to help, bringing us meals etc - Amy made a chicken pie today anyway - she figures extra  meals will be most handy when I'm back working late shifts again and she's dealing with 3 kids.

A couple of my girls :)

Other news: It was Joss' birthday on the 15th - Uncle Tim (or Auntie Tim as Toby would prefer) was still here, so it was an exciting day for the big 5 yr old. She got a big bike, books, a hoola hoop (?sp), dolls, girl jewellry stuff, and other stuff.. mmm...stuff.  She thanked Jesus for "all the presents I got", so I took the opportunity to have a chat with her about perspective... she decided to re-pray and thank Jesus for "her loving families and friends, without whom even the best presents wouldn't mean much" (something like that anyway). I'm quite enjoying these informal chats - she'll sometimes come into our bed in the morning and ask me if we can have a talk - it's great for teaching at a time of non-conflict, for letting her know about the big occassions in our lives, family history etc.. and she just soaks it up - most excellent!

My Mum & Dad hung out for a few days while Amy was in hospital and were a great help - I'm really glad that they were able to be around right at the beginning this time.  The kids have such a great time with them, and I've said it before, but there is great joy as a parent, to watch your kids interact with other people you love.

There's been more to this last week or so, but that'll almost do for now... One of my highlights was getting to hang out with Amy's brother Tim for a while - , eating 3 dinners in one night, performing haircuts while very very tired, beating stranger chicks in a game of pool (should we be proud?), conversing with Michaela on Tim's phone in the cinema (and trying to work out what the heck she was saying - probably "get off the phone and put Tim back on" ;) - all done and done...

One other highlight was watching Toby become an adrenaline junkie at this play centre... My 2yr old ignored all signs and went on the 4+yr's  slide many times, shaking with anticipation before each one!!

Wheee...
